(FOX 2):An Indiana woman won a sizable sum of money on Christmas after exchanging white elephant gifts with her father.
While her father had acquired a flashlight as a gift, Emily Hickox, 25, first received the flashlight. At a Rockford Meijer, that ticket was bought.
“He wanted his gift back, so we made an agreement after the game to trade gifts,” she explained. “I believed I had won $50,000 when I scratched the ticket off on Christmas, which is also my birthday. In order to examine the ticket on the app scanner, I downloaded the Michigan Lottery app and made an account. I was stunned to see the extra zero because I was expected to read $50,000! The fact that I had just won $500,000 was beyond my comprehension.
Hickox intends to invest, get a new vehicle, and divide some of the proceeds with her parents and the cousin who purchased the ticket.
Based on the figures:
The Michigan Lottery reports that since the Detroit Lions quick game’s September launch, players have won over $21 million.
Prizes from $5 to $500,000 are up for grabs with each $5 ticket.
Playing scratch-offs, lottery participants earned around $1.8 billion in 2023.
