Jerry Jones working quick to appoint new Dallas Cowboys head coach with Bill Belichick on wish list after McCarthy exit
The Dallas Cowboys, who parted ways with Mike McCarthy, are in dire need of a new head coach.
The Cowboys are currently far behind in the coaching cycle because they took their time determining whether or not to keep McCarthy.
On Monday, it was revealed that McCarthy and the Cowboys were unable to reach a consensus on a possible contract extension.
The Cowboys front management participated in mandated inclusive hiring training a few hours later.
One of the initial elements in the NFL’s multi-step employment procedure is the training, which was implemented in 2022.
If they haven’t done so in the past two seasons, anyone who hires a candidate must do this course.

For the first time in five years, the Cowboys can start looking for a head coach now that training is over.
Although they already have some favorites, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are well behind other teams who have been in the hiring process for weeks.
Notwithstanding his recent position as a college coach, Bill Belichick might be at the top of Dallas’ list.
Belichick and Jones get along well, and last month there were rumors that the former New England Patriots coach would be interested in the position if it opened up.
The $10 million buyout in Belichick’s North Carolina contract is the only thing preventing him from being hired.
An owner like Jones would probably still pursue Belichick with that sum, but after June 1 the buyout drops to $1 million.
Jones will have to wait a few weeks if he wishes to inquire about some of the other best options.
The Lions’ offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, is regarded as one of the best coaching prospects this season.
Over the weekend, he finished interviews with the Patriots, Jaguars, Raiders, and Bears before pausing to concentrate on the Detroit Lions game that was coming up.
Johnson is currently unable to do any more interviews until the Lions’ season is over.
For each coach on the Kansas City Chiefs, this is the same.
Three days following their victory, Jones can interview any candidate that coached in the Wild Card round if he is interested in them.
The deadline for finishing those interviews is Sunday, January 19.
The Cowboys are free to interview any other coaches who aren’t in the playoffs right now.

The second-choice candidate for the position is Deion Sanders.
