Juan Soto future update as MLB superstar nears making $600m contract decision with Yankees, Mets and rivals in running
With the bidding clearing $600 for the MLB star, Juan Soto looks to be nearing a final contract decision.
The New York Yankees, his old team, the crosstown rival Mets, and even other formidable opponents like the Boston Red Sox have expressed a strong interest in Soto, the top free agent of the winter.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the bidding for Soto had surpassed $600 million.
At Dodger Stadium the same day, Soto’s agent Scott Boras disclosed that Soto has started to weed out possible landing destinations, although he did not specify which organizations.
The 26-year-old outfielder is anticipated to sign before the end of the Winter Meetings, which start in Dallas on Sunday, December 8, and last through Thursday, December 12, according to ESPN’s Aiden Gonzalez.
Soto is expected to sign his contract as soon as possible, based on recent history.

The two top free agents from the previous two offseasons, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani, both signed contracts in the first ten days of December.
The current worth of Soto’s contract, which is anticipated to run at least 12 years, may surpass the record established by two-way Ohtani with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year when he signed a highly deferred 10-year, $700 million contract.
Soto has been linked to the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Blue Jays, and Dodgers this winter.
Compared to the other teams, the latter two appear to be less plausible.
Although the Blue Jays are expected to make the largest contract offer, Toronto must make a higher offer because of Canadian taxation and the team’s recent struggles to sign free agents.
According to The Athletic, the Blue Jays and the defending champion Dodgers, who just inked Blake Snell to a big five-year deal, are “long shots” to sign Soto.
The Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets are therefore the teams most likely to sign Soto.
The Mets are “as the favorite” to sign Soto, according to The Athletic, while the Red Sox are described as a “surprising force in the negotiations” and highlighted how “desperately” the Yankees want to keep him in pinstripes with Judge.
In his debut season in the Bronx, Soto put together a career campaign, hitting.288 with 41 home runs and 109 RBI.
After Judge and Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals, he came in third place in the AL MVP voting.
Despite losing to the Dodgers in five games, Soto and Judge guided the Yankees to the World Series.
Given how many seasons he still has left at age 26, Soto’s next contract would be reasonable.
