Juan Soto signs biggest contract in sports history to join New York Mets in $765million 15 year deal

Baseball sensation Juan Soto has committed to the New York Mets for the next 15 years, signing the largest contract in sports history.

After the World Series in October, 26-year-old Soto was free to sign with any team.

Several teams expressed interest in him when he hit 41 home runs for the New York Yankees in the 2024 regular season.

The Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers all fought for his services.

However, Soto has since agreed to join the Mets, ending the story.

The 26-year-old reportedly agreed to a 15-year contract worth an incredible $765 million.

It surpasses the record-breaking contract Shohei Ohtani signed when he committed to the Dodgers last year, making it the biggest contract in professional sports history.

According to ESPN, Soto has two options: he may opt out after the fifth year (2029) or he can get a $4 million rise every season for the balance of the contract, going from $51 million to $55 million.

This implies that the deal could be worth up to $800 million.

Last season, Soto was an essential part of the Yankees’ lineup.

In October, he and fellow outfielder Aaron Judge led the Pinstripes to the World Series.

However, he left when they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

He reportedly turned down the Yankees’ offer of $760 million spread over 16 years to continue on.

Less than two months later, Soto has joined one of the most formidable opponents of his former team.

His choice infuriated a lot of fans, with one commenting on X: “Worst possible news ever.”

Someone else said: “That s a lot to take to lose a lifetime legacy and potential monument with the Yankees.”

A third, however, stated: “Changing the uniforms is the simplest solution! Soto won’t have a ring, but I suppose the money will be sufficient for him.”

Soto won the World Series the season after making his Major League Baseball debut with the Washington Nationals in 2018.

The San Diego Padres are another team the 26-year-old has played for.
