Judge Kelly Ramsey was unreserved in her sentencing of DETROIT (FOX 2)

Joseph Stewart was charged with killing Delia Dinwiddie, a cherished wife and grandmother, on June 8th in Linwood, close to Davison, on Detroit’s west side.

“I wonder if it would ve given her some comfort in her final breaths if you had walked out of your car and held her hand – and had the decency to apologize,” remarked Judge Ramsey.

Stewart allegedly collided with Dinwiddie while delivering a pizza for Uber Eats.

They asked him why he hadn’t called the police after he said, “I went on to deliver the pizza.” Prosecuting attorney Brian Craigo responded, “It would have been an inconvenience.”

Stewart entered a plea agreement after entering a no contest plea to failure to stop, while initially facing three charges.

The 26-year-old received a sentence of two years of probation and nine months in jail.

The judge remarked, “I would not have given you this sentence,” “I would have not.”

This is because, up until now, the case has been heard in a different judge’s courtroom.

Stewart was over three hours late for his appearance, which added to the intense emotions in the courtroom.

The family of Dinwiddie left before Stewart apologized.

“I’ve been wanting to apologize to the family, but other than that, there s not really a lot to say,” Stewart stated.

Judge Ramsey gave a stern reply.

“I’m not impressed with your apology today Mr. Stewart,” she responded. Although you stated that you would have liked to apologize, you didn’t even say “I’m sorry” to the court.

If you had stopped right away, taken out your cell phone, dialed 911, and summoned an ambulance, I wonder if she would still be alive today, Mr. Stewart. For the rest of your life, I want you to ask yourself that question every day.

Judge Ramsey mandated that the defendant carry out the entire nine-month sentence without any time off for good behavior. He must pay restitution and court fines upon his release.

Inset: Delia Dinwiddie, victim, Joseph Stewart.
