Kansas City Chiefs handed major boost with two key Andy Reid allies set to stay for 2025 NFL season

For the 2025 season, it appears that the Kansas City Chiefs will retain their top coaching staff.

Both DC Steve Spagnuolo and OC Matt Nagy had been considered for head coaching positions throughout the NFL.

Earlier this month, a number of teams invited the two for interviews.

Spagnuolo had previously stated that he would be amenable to taking on another head coaching position.

He managed the St. Louis Rams for three seasons in 2009, which was his final NFL head coaching position.

Early in January, Nagy and Spagnuolo both had interviews for the New York Jets’ then-open position.

Additionally, Spagnuolo received invitations to meet with the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Since then, the Jets have hired Aaron Glenn as their head coach, the Jaguars have hired Liam Coen, and the Raiders have hired Pete Carroll.

Therefore, it becomes more possible that Nagy and Spagnuolo will both be present to support Andy Reidin, the chief of Kansas City, in 2025.

Only two NFL teams are still looking for a new head coach: the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints.

According to AtoZ Sports, neither Spagnuolo nor Nagy are being considered for either.

One admirer commented, “I’m over the moon that Spags is staying,” on X.

“Andy is leading the attack, so Mr. Nagy is free to depart anytime he pleases. However, Spags? “He has to stay!” another wrote.

“I discovered a large number of idiots that dislike Nagy. I’m not sure why; these supporters are undoubtedly more knowledgeable. A third said, “Learn to love it; he’s the coach of the future.”

“Nagy can continue to shuffle. A fourth retorted, “We really need some outside talent to be brought in to rejuice the system.”

Earlier this month, Spagnuolo acknowledged that he has his sights set on a position as head coach.

“I’ll deal with that later,” he said when asked if he would like to work as an HC in the future. “Yes,” is the response.

Spagnuolo led the Rams from 2009 to 2011, although his first season was a terrible 1–15 campaign.

Before being sacked, he struggled to a 2-14 record in his third season after going 7-9 in his second campaign.

On Sunday, the Chiefs will play the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

Since no NFL club in modern history has ever won three straight Lombardis, Kansas City is aiming for a historic three-peat this season.

Reid signed a contract deal through 2029 last year, so it appears he will be staying on for another season.

Since 2013, the 66-year-old has been the Chiefs’ coach, and he has won three Super Bowl rings.
