Kansas City Chiefs land huge NFL Draft 2025 pick boost after benefiting from little-known clause
A condition in a transaction will allow the Kansas City Chiefs to keep a stronger pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Following a 15-2 finish to the 2024 season, which earned them the No. 1 seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, Andy Reid and the Chiefs are currently having a great week.
The specifics of Kansas City’s midseason deal for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins have become clearer since the regular season ended.
After Patrick Mahomes’ team lost both wideouts Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown to injuries for the majority of the season, the Chiefs acquired Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans.
During his ten games in Kansas City, the five-time Pro Bowler Hopkins recorded 41 receptions for 437 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, Tennessee received a conditional fifth-round pick from the Chiefs, which could be converted to a fourth-round pick if the 32-year-old was involved in more than 60% of Kansas City’s offensive snaps.

That wouldn’t happen, though, as the Chiefs would merely forfeit a fifth-round pick.
According to Spotrac on X, Hopkins played in less than half of the team’s regular season snaps.
As he continued to play for the team, the 12-year NFL veteran’s role became less significant.
After Brown eventually recovered from injury late in the season, Kansas City rookie Xavier Worthy was given more targets, making Hopkins effectively the team’s third wide receiver option.
Additionally, in his previous six games with the Chiefs, Travis Kelce recorded at least four receptions.
Despite this, Hopkins has been more than a good player in the offense of the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.
Regretfully, Hopkins missed out on $750,000 in incentives at the end of the season with nine receptions, 140 receiving yards, and one score.
Hopkins only recorded 16 receptions, 173 yards, and one touchdown in his six games with the Titans to start the season.
After a dismal 3-14 season, Tennesee presently has the first overall pick in the next draft.
Hopkins now has a week to recuperate and get ready for the postseason.
The Chiefs also know which draft pick they will get as a result of last season’s trade of cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Titans.
The No. 66 overall pick, the third pick in the third round of the draft, will go to Kansas City.
The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Tennessee all had identical records at the end of the draft, therefore they will trade picks.

Kansas City would have received the first pick in the third round if the Titans had merited the No. 3 overall pick.
The Chiefs’ next goal will be to complete a three-peat, which has never been done in league history.
