Kanye West hires high-powered lawyer in lawsuit over Donda copyright after firing legal team for all 14 court cases

Months after firing his previous lawyer and ostensibly ignoring over a dozen cases, Kanye West has finally acquired legal counsel.

The contentious celebrity, who has been in Japan for a few months, has ignored the majority of the lawsuits and has not appeared for depositions.

Former workers have filed a lawsuit against him, alleging anything from unfair termination to sexual assault.

Due to claimed failed business agreements, West is now defending himself against other cases.

Artist Revenue Advocates LLC filed one of the accusations, alleging that Ye exploited music written by its talent without authorization.

According to documents obtained by The U.S. Sun, the firm claimed that the song was sampled in the songs “Hurricane” and “Moon” from his August 2021 album, “Donda.”

Yeezy LLC, Yeezy Supply LLC, Ox Paha Inc., and other businesses connected to the celebrity are also defendants in the lawsuit, which was filed in July of this year.

According to the lawsuit, Ye committed “blatant theft of musical property” by using the music.

According to documents, West and his businesses were granted further time to respond to the case, and they are scheduled to begin mediation by December 31, 2024, at the latest.

Additionally, according to recent documents, he has retained attorneys Jesse Belmontes and Eduardo Martorell to represent him and his businesses.

The U.S. Sun reached out to Kanye’s attorneys for comment, but they did not reply.

GAP SUIT

In recent weeks, they submitted a response to the complaint in which they denied “each and every allegation” made in the case.

Artist Revenue Advocates, LLC submitted a demand for a jury trial on December 6.

The deadline for the parties to hold a settlement conference is still January 23, 2026.

If not, documents indicate that a trial will begin on April 20, 2026, with the final pretrial meeting scheduled for April 3, 2026.

In addition, Kanye has finally engaged a lawyer for his $2 million case against The Gap, according to In Touch.

According to the pleadings, The Gap’s attorney stated that Manoj Shah of Brand Counsel PC contacted them and said he was taking on the issue for West and Yeezy.

In 2022, Art City Center filed a lawsuit against The Gap.

According to Art City Center, the apparel brand leased a business space in Downtown Los Angeles to serve as a store for West’s partnership with The Gap.

However, the agreement with the big brand subsequently broke down.

Despite the lease’s prohibition on alterations without permission, Art City accused The Gap of making many changes to the property.

According to court documents, when The Gap countersued West and Yeezy for $2 million, claiming the celebrity and his team had authority over the property and made changes without explanation, Art City was seeking $800,000 in damages.

Attorneys have accused Kanye of changing attorneys in an attempt to postpone the lawsuit and evade disclosure requirements.

FIRED ATTORNEY

In the current move, The Gap’s attorneys said, “Gap has been actively seeking Ye’s deposition and discovery.

“In December 2023, Gap provided Ye with its initial wave of finding.

“The Yeezy Parties switched attorneys two days after submitting egregiously inadequate discovery responses.

“Meeting and conferring activities on the pending documents began as soon as Yeezy’s new counsel was operational.

“Over a period of two months, between March and May 2024, Yeezy s counsel maintained that a search for documents was forthcoming, citing issues with locating and obtaining documents from his client.”

They went on, “Gap also tried to arrange for Ye to be deposed during this time. The Yeezy Parties’ depositions on September 19, 2024, October 11, 2024, and October 15, 2024 were observed by Gap.

But during this time, the Yeezy Parties fired their lawyers once more.

“Although the Yeezy Parties’ CFO informed Gap that new counsel, Manoj Shah of Brand Counsel PC, was to be assigned to the case, Mr. Shah has yet to make a formal appearance.”

When it comes to West being sued, there seems to be a pattern.

Before firing him and going on, he had previously had lawyer Brian Blumfield represent him in the lawsuit and others.

In documents, Brumfield claims that on June 21, 2024, West ended their collaboration and failed to reimburse him.
