Keir U-turns on manifesto AGAIN as Labour water down flagship clean energy pledge in new Plan for Change
In a last-ditch effort to turn around his faltering government, Sir Keir Starmer today reneged on his major green energy vow.
During a significant speech at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, the prime minister reaffirmed his goal of getting the UK “to at least 95 per cent clean power” by 2030.
However, Sir Keir made it clear in Labour’s manifesto that his party would impose a zero-carbon economy within six years.
The prime minister also softened his promise that the UK would achieve the G7’s highest rate of sustained growth.
Today, that objective is more of a “aim” than a future accomplishment that was guaranteed.
The PM introduced six new “missions” today, including the diluted Net Zero and economic goals.

- Boosting real disposable incomes and GDP per head.
- Cutting NHS waits so 92 per cent of patients are seen within 18 months.
- Guaranteeing a named police officer for every neighbourhood.
- Ensuring 75 per cent of kids start school ready to learn.
- Powering the UK with 95 per cent low-carbon energy by 2030.
“We know, after the sacrifices people made during the past 14 years, that it will be hard for working people to hear politicians ask them to come together for their country again,” he wrote in the text that was published with his address.
However, change is desperately needed. And it needs to be fulfilled.
