Kirk Herbstreit makes live TV mistake on Amazon broadcast with Detroit Lions proving him wrong with call in Packers win
The Detroit Lions’ heroic play call that won them a classic on Thursday left KIRK Herbstreit speechless.
In an exciting NFC North matchup, Detroit defeated division rivals the Green Bay Packers 34-31.
As time ran out, the Lions kicked the game-winning field goal.
The Green Bay Packers had no time to return after Jake Bates’ successful 35-yard try.
With around 40 seconds remaining on 4th and 1, Lions coach Dan Campbell had the opportunity to kick a field goal.
To try to convert the fourth down and stretch the clock further, however, was an extremely bold move on his part.

The Packers would have gained possession with the score tied 31-31 if they had stopped the Lions there.
During the Thursday Night Football broadcast on Amazon Prime, Herbstreit stated, “Dan Campbell is dying to go for it.”
“But obviously, he s got to kick this field goal to potentially win this game, at least go ahead here by three.”
When Campbell made the crucial choice, Herbstreit made the incorrect call.
David Montgomery received the ball from Jared Goff and converted it for a first down.
After that, Bates entered the game and made the field goal to help Detroit win 34-31 and raise their record to 12-1.

Campbell remarked, “I just thought we needed to end it on offense.”
I thought we could convert, and I didn’t want to give the ball back. I have faith in the O-line. I have faith in David.
In their five attempts to go for it on fourth down, the Lions were successful in four of them.
With their win, they also increased their record to 12-1, which is the best in the NFL.
Tim Patrick caught two of Goff’s three touchdown throws.
We spoke about being really aggressive on it during the week, Goff said in the Amazon postgame show.
Early in the week, Dan informed us that we were sort of placing this on your shoulders.
“If there is a chance to go for it on the fourth, we will do it.” “We are going to be pretty aggressive.”
