A family off Arnold Street, close to Ann Arbor Trail and Beech Daley, received an eviction notice from a landlord on Friday morning, according to home surveillance footage.
When a dispute sprang out between the landlord and a few of the men from that residence, the notice became tense.
After that, the landlord allegedly returned outside to retrieve his weapon from his truck.
A single shot is heard hitting an elderly man in the leg during a heated altercation captured on home security footage.
Someone shouts, “call the police,” in Arabic, in the footage.
The landlord turned himself up on the street as Dearborn Heights police arrived on the scene brandishing their firearms.
“I wish he would’ve taken a minute and maybe calmed down, kind of deescalated or just left the scene,” Vanderplow said.
According to Vanderplow, you can always call the police to assist in mediating a conflict or to be on call.
“That is the reason we are here. Since we are here to serve, that is what we would like to do in order to prevent these types of incidents because, as a citizen, I would think that everyone involved is regretting their choices,” Vanderplow added.
After being shot in the leg, the old guy is stable and on the mend. He will be alright, according to officials.
In the meantime, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office will rely heavily on security footage when determining charges.
The landlord was taken into custody and is currently incarcerated on unresolved charges.
