‘Life-changing’ trick clears ice from windshields in seconds – all you need is 3 items that are laying around your home
Using just three common household items, drivers have found a “life-changing” method for removing ice from their frozen windscreens.
The practical trick breaks the frost and stops it from returning by using a clever bit of chemistry.
The National Weather Service warns that temperatures in the far north could go below zero this week, so Americans are preparing for a harsh cold spell.
Large areas of the country are expected to be covered in snow and ice, which might cause disruption.
However, waking up to discover your windshield totally frosted up is one of the most annoying parts of winter for drivers.
Most drivers are forced to use an ice scraper to chip away at it because failing to clear it is obviously dangerous and can result in heavy fines.

Chadwick Benefield, host of WBK Radio, was in a similar situation outside his house in western Kentucky.
“Although I don’t mind the cold weather during the day, I do mind it in the mornings,” the DJ recalled.
“You see, I rise earlier than the sun to broadcast a morning radio show.
Every everyday, I get out of bed around 4 a.m. and get into my car to get to work by 5 a.m.
“This morning, I went to get into my car- Fred the Fusion- and noticed that hiswindshieldwas frosted over.”
In order to get to work, Chadwick had to stand out in the bitter cold and try to clear his vision after painfully forgetting his gloves as well.
He disclosed, however, that a listener had come forward to share their incredibly successful windshield clearing trick after he told the story on radio.
He clarified: “A listener friend came in with some advice after I told them about my adventure on the air.
“She presented an absurdly simple yet powerful life hack that only requires rubbing alcohol, water, and a spray bottle.
She claims that it is always successful.
“It’s so effective that she even gives her kids spray bottles for their cars.”
Some fairly basic school-level chemistry makes the hack work.
The freezing point of water is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, as any science enthusiast is aware.
However, alcohol has a far lower freezing point than other liquids.
Since ethanol alcohol has a freezing point of a staggering -173F, combining it with ice also lowers the freezing point of water.
Just fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and a little water, then liberally mist your windshield.
Within a few seconds, the ice should start to melt and become easier to scrape off.

Better yet, you can use the mixture as a prophylactic measure.
If there is any freezing when you wake up, it should be significantly less than it was the night before if you spray down the windshield.
