Lions activate safety Ifeatu Melifonwu off injured reserve
SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA – JANUARY 28: In the second half of the NFC Championship Game at Levi’s Stadium on January 28, Brock Purdy #13 of the San Francisco 49ers attempts to pass the ball while being pressured by Ifeatu Melifonwu #6 of the Detroit Lions.
(AP) Allen Park, MISafety Ifeatu Melifonwu was one step closer to making his season debut on Saturday when the Detroit Lions reinstated him from injured reserve.
Due to a hand injury, Melifonwu was designated as questionable for Sunday’s game against Chicago.
Security Both guard Graham Glasgow (knee) and Brian Branch (calf) were doubtful for the Bears game.
Both linebacker Trevor Nowaske (concussion) and center Frank Ragnow (back) are expected to play, but Detroit did not include them on the injury report.
Jermar Jefferson, the running back, and Loren Strickland, the safety, were promoted from the practice squad to the active roster by the Lions. Given that David Montgomery is sidelined indefinitely due to a knee ailment, Jefferson might provide depth. Since his first season with the Lions in 2021, he has not participated in an NFL game.
In order to strengthen coach Dan Campbell’s injured defense, Detroit also added defensive tackle Chris Smith and linebacker Mitchell Agude from the practice squad to the active roster. Additionally, wide receiver Tom Kennedy was signed from the practice squad for a special teams option.
The Lions discarded defensive lineman David Bada with an injury settlement and cut safety Brandon Joseph and wide receiver Maurice Alexander to clear space on the roster.
