Lions’ Campbell expects to lose both coordinators to NFL head coach jobs but ‘This train rolls on’

As the coaching staff begins making plans for the future following an incredible season that ended abruptly, Lions head coach Dan Campbell considers the factors that contributed to Saturday’s playoff loss to the Washington Commanders.

FOX 2.Life and, of course, the NFL are both subject to change. The Lions will probably get their share of it after the NFL’s greatest regular season and two highly sought-after assistant coaches.

On Monday, Lions coach Dan Campbell stated that he expected both Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson to be head coaches.

“I would expect to lose both, but I haven’t been told anything,” he stated. “I’ve got a feeling, but I’m prepared to lose both.”

Johnson and Glenn have been contacted for head coaching positions across the league, and because the Lions are now out of the postseason, interest is only going to grow.

According to rumors released Monday morning, Glenn, the defensive coordinator, is scheduled to speak with the New York Jets again. On Wednesday, he will have a face-to-face meeting with the New Orleans Saints.

Numerous stories on Monday are tying Johnson to the Chicago Bears.

Campbell attributes the team’s success over the past four years to their efforts and says he will always be grateful for them.

“We arrived at our current location after emerging from the garbage. So, dude, those men and our team have my eternal gratitude,” he remarked. “Is there a loss? Of course. However, we proceed, guy. I’ll locate the next best guys for us as this train continues. If that shift occurs, we want it to go smoothly.

“That’s my job is to replenish and find the next man up, and the guy who’s who’s going to give us the best chance to have success on both sides of the ball.”

“Choosing between internal and external candidates to fill the positions will be one challenge,” he said. He likened it to hiring the best candidate for the position who not only fits the role but also meshes well with the current culture.

However, it seems unlikely that the Lions will change their identity in the near future. They know who they are, according to Campbell.

“No, I don’t see philosophy changing I know what we are,” he replied. Does that imply that a few things are changed? If that occurs, a few things will be adjusted, such as the nature of having new coordinators. You know, because you want their flavor and style to be included into it. However, we’re going to do what I want.”

Don’t expect Campbell and General Manager Brad Holmes to find a replacement right away if one or both are hired in the near future.

“You know, I’m not in a mad dash – no matter what happens,” replied the man. “I want to act in a way that benefits our team. In the end, we’ll send the same message that I’m delivering because (someone who) can stand in front of the room, command respect, and have everyone moving in the same way.”
