Local Olympic Rugby player’s bronze medal one of many slowly tarnishing

DETROIT (FOX 2):Many athletes aspire to receive this honor, but for some who do, they face a problem that could tarnish their achievement plaque.

The backstory

An Olympian from the area likened her bronze medal in women’s rugby for the United States to an old coin. Hundreds of other winners are experiencing the same thing as her.

In the summer of 2024, Alena Olsen took home her rugby medal. At that time, the medal was shiny and new. It was US Rugby’s very first medal.

Unfortunately, the new, shiny medal has quickly lost its shine.

“It s happening all around the edges so it s hard to read the inscription on the bottom,” she explained. “The color has changed; it no longer shines as brilliantly as it once did. From the first day, it was clear that this was beginning to take place. In the village, people were already discussing it.

Under the parent firm LVMH, France praised the awards’ creators. Louis Vuitton, Moet (the champagne), and Hennessy (the brown liquor) are represented by the acronym.

However, it appears like the luxury company made a mistake with this one.

“All I could think about was whether or not I should let others to touch it. Shall I attempt to keep it intact? Do you think I should get a backup one? She remarked, “I believe I heard some people were able to apply for a second one.”

Next steps:

Even if Alena’s medal may not be as shiny as it once was, their well-deserved victory cannot be diminished.

At the athletes’ request, Monnaie de Paris agreed to replace the bronze medals following some rather harsh criticism.

They are prepared to replace one hundred and counting already.
