Macomb County school district admins caught smoking weed near school

(FOX 2) Warren, Mich.The superintendent and two other Fitzgerald Public Schools administrators are on leave and are being charged as a result.

Superintendent Hollie Stange and food services director Amanda Carroll, both 38, were found using marijuana on Friday in the parking lot of a plaza close to 9 Mile and Ryan, within 1,000 feet of Fitzgerald High School, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

When they were finished, they were stopped and drove off in separate cars. The prosecution said both women were reportedly intoxicated when they were pulled over. According to the authorities, Stange also had a weapon in her car.

Over the weekend, both ladies were charged after being taken into custody on Friday.

During her police questioning, Stange admitted to consuming marijuana and showed symptoms of intoxication. When police inspected her car after she was arrested, they discovered a loaded.22 caliber rifle and more than 50 grams of marijuana.

Stange faces charges of operating while intoxicated, carrying a handgun within a school zone, and possessing marijuana on school premises.

Carroll faces allegations of second-offense operating while drunk and marijuana possession on school property. Carroll’s car was stopped by police on Friday when they noticed indications of intoxication.

When they pulled her over, they found 25 grams of marijuana and a 6-year-old child inside.

Both of them received a $5,000 cash/surety interim bond, and they are scheduled to appear in court on Monday for a bond hearing.

“These accusations are really concerning. These ladies are trusted with our children’s welfare in addition to being accountable for their own behavior. It is a betrayal of that trust to drive while intoxicated and to engage in alleged unlawful drug use close to school grounds,” Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Luicido said. “We will pursue justice to ensure accountability and uphold the safety and integrity of our schools.”

The school system stated that the appointment of a temporary superintendent and director of food services is currently underway.
