Madison Heights man beaten to death on Christmas Eve

(FOX 2) Madison Heights, Mich.Robert “Bobby” Cavanaugh passed away unexpectedly on Christmas Eve, leaving his family inconsolable.

According to Jane Thompson, Bobby’s sister, her brother was always good-hearted.

Jane remarked, “He’s kind of a hero to me,” “He was always reaching out to others, helping them.”

Indeed, according to Bobby’s neighbors, he was attempting to assist a dog when his life was taken.

“He was an animal lover,” Rebecca Spencer, a neighbor, said. “He would not let anybody kill an animal or hurt one.”

Fire and police personnel arrived at their mobile home community right away.

“Found Mr. Cavanaugh unresponsive and bleeding,” stated Lt. David Koehler of Madison Heights Police. “The fire department tried life-saving measures, transported him to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”

According to police, the event is being investigated, and they are investigating claims that the victim was attempting to save a puppy.

“There was an altercation of some sort, but we don t know what led to it,” stated Koehler. “Our investigation has led to the arrest of someone, but it appeared Cavanaugh had some blunt force trauma which could have potentially caused his death.”

Law enforcement is aware of the suspect, according to the police. According to the neighbors, they too want Bobby to get justice.

“He has been in this community for so long, and he has helped everybody,” Spencer stated.

Bobby’s family is now looking to the community for assistance with burial costs.
