Major update on Michail Antonio as West Ham star undergoes surgery after horror Ferrari crash
Following his horrific Ferrari collision, Michael Antonio had surgery to repair his shattered leg, according to a statement from West Ham.
Following the collision in Epping, Essex, yesterday at approximately 12:50 p.m., the West Ham player was hurried to the hospital.
“West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio has had surgery for a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon,” the club stated this afternoon.
“Over the next few days, Michael will remain under hospital observation.
“The entire football community is sincerely grateful for the tremendous support that has been displayed since yesterday’s news, and everyone at the Club wishes Michail a rapid recovery.
“A sincere thank you to the medical staff who are still helping Michail recuperate, as well as the emergency services and first responders who helped him in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
“The Club will provide further updates when appropriate.”
Since joining West Ham United in 2015, Michail has played a variety of positions, including winger, right back, and right midfield.
The forward was voted the team’s Player of the Year in 2017 after joining from Nottingham Forest.
He eventually became the primary striker for the team, and on August 23, 2021, he topped the Premier League scoring charts for West Ham.
This season, Antonio has made 15 appearances and scored one goal.
With 68 goals, he is the team’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League.
The club stated yesterday: “After a traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex region, we can report that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition.
Michael is presently being closely monitored at a hospital in central London and is conscious and able to communicate.
“We respectfully request that everyone respect Michail and his family’s privacy at this trying time.
“The Club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course.”
