Man emails Costco CEO after getting ‘hole in one’ from store-brand ball – then gets surprise letter and gift in the mail

On the golf course, a COSTCO member received a reward after hitting a hole-in-one.

The warehouse retailer was more pleased with the kind of golf they played, even though making a hole-in-one is generally spectacular.

Since the mid-1990s, Kirkland Signature, Costco’s own label, has produced a wide range of goods.

Kirkland Signature entered the sports industry in 2016 and began selling golf balls to members under the same brand.

With a low price of $29.99 for two dozen, it aimed to attract customers.

For comparison, a dozen of the best tour balls, like as the Titleist Pro V1, usually cost about $55.

For casual golfers who don’t care as much about the brand name, that’s a significant savings.

When the member made the hole-in-one earlier in November, they took advantage of the excellent deal by using the Kirkland Signature golf ball.

The shopper posted on Reddit, “Earlier this month, I got a hole in one with a KS ball,”

Given how difficult it is to hit a hole-in-one and the fact that many golf courses and equipment manufacturers give away gifts or prizes, the astute consumer decided to take a chance and contact Costco.

EXECUTIVE AWARD

“A lot of golf companies offer something complimentary if you make a hole in one with their equipment, so I decided to email the CEO lol!” they shrieked.

To their amazement, Yoon Kim, Costco’s senior vice president of merchandising, received the email from Costco employees.

Kim thanked the client for their support and use of the Kirkland Signature ball in a handwritten letter of congratulations.

A complimentary two-dozen box of additional golf balls was also included.

“Was not expecting a reply and was surprised to get a response and get forwarded over to the SVP who got my details and sent some KS balls and a note!” they stated.

ACTION APPROVED

The warehouse retailer received kudos for the act from a number of other Costco members.

“Costco rocks,” a commenter said.

Another person remarked, “HAHA Costco being a good sport!”

“Dude. A third person wrote, “I’m jealous on both accounts.”

According to American Hole-In-One, the odds for the typical golfer to make a hole-in-one right now are almost 12,500 to one.

The odds are significantly better for PGA Tour pros, who have a 2,500 to one advantage.

MEMBER MADNESS

Costco members who play golf are likely to be moved by the thoughtful gesture, but many have recently been incensed over some of the retailer’s policy changes.

You have to pay an annual fee for either the Gold Star or Executive membership in order to buy at Costco.

At $65 a year, Gold Star is the entry-level, while Executive offers greater benefits and bonuses for $130.

Many have attempted for years to “share” memberships in order to obtain Costco’s rates covertly without paying, but this practice is being curbed by new card scanners positioned at entrances and ID verification requirements.

Frustrated by the new rule, some have threatened to “dump” their membership.

Others are upset about a baking need being taken off store shelves before the holidays because of a widespread recall.
