McDonald’s launches new frappe flavor in menu switch following wave of broken machines
Following the decommissioning of numerous espresso machines, McDonald’s has introduced a new frappe flavor and changed up its menu.
The Dulce de Leche Frappe, which is available nationwide for sweet tooths to enjoy in, is inspired by a famous Latin flavor.
With their newest McCafe invention, a dulce de leche-inspired frappe, McDonald’s is adding a little sweetness to the Christmas season.
A common flavor in Latin America is dulce de leche, which is created by gradually heating milk and sugar over a number of hours.
With a caramel coffee frappe base and dulce de leche syrup mixed with ice, the new McDonald’s dulce de leche delicacy is garnished with crispy caramel pieces and whipped cream.
With a promotion honoring the traditional flavor’s Latin origins, the fast food company debuted the limited-edition frozen beverage.

“There are numerous names for dulce de leche,” McDonald’s said. “Whether you know it as cajeta, manjar, manjar blanco, arequipe, milk candy, fanguito, doce de leite, leche quemada or any other name, this sweet staple is a unifying flavor for Latinos, evoking memories of home, no matter where you re from.”
“McDonald s is serving up this iconic flavor with the Dulce de Leche Frapp a deliciously nostalgic treat set to transport you back to abuela s kitchen, your childhood candy store or the corner panader a.”
For the commercial, McDonald’s teamed up with I Aki Godoy, a budding Mexican actor best known for his involvement in the Netflix series One Piece.
The business is using dulce de leche carts, or carritos, to further celebrate the new flavor.
From 12 to 3 PM local time, the carts will be appearing in a few McDonald’s restaurants in Miami and Southern California, offering complimentary samples of the new dulce de leche frappe.
While supplies last, fans will also have the chance to win Arch Cards, get unique merchandise, and more.
On December 6 and 7, the cart will stop by the McDonald’s at 48350 Seminole Drive in Cabazon, California, and 7861 Beach Boulevard in Buena Park, California, respectively.
On December 13 and 14, a cart will appear at the McDonald’s located at 1400 Southwest 8th Street in Miami and the restaurant located at 1650 Washington Ave in Miami Beach, respectively.
MACHINE MANIA
After the chain’s espresso equipment went down, McDonald’s added a new dulce de leche frappe to its menu.
Since some of the machines have been out of commission for more than two weeks since the outage was initially reported, the drink is not espresso-based.
Melitta, a supplier to McDonald’s, claims that the machines were deactivated because they posed a possible risk to equipment safety.
McDonald’s Frappes
McDonald’s frappes are frozen blended beverages with whipped cream on top that are usually made with coffee, caramel, or chocolate.
The fast-food restaurant franchise offers a number of limited-edition and regular frappe flavors, such as:
- Caramel Frappe
- Mocha Frappe
- Coffee Frappe
- Dulce de Leche Frappe
- Strawberries and Cream Frappe
- Chocolate Frappe
- Vanilla Frappe
While non-espresso-based drinks like hot and iced brewed coffee will still be offered at affected McDonald’s restaurants, espresso-based drinks like hot and iced lattes might not be.
McDonald’s is currently trying to figure out how many restaurants are affected.
On November 20, a number of outlets in Manhattan and Brooklyn indicated that their espresso-based drinks were not available on the McDonald’s app.
As of December 5, McDonald’s restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky, are also without espresso, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.
The machine outage affects beverages including lattes, Americanos, and macchiatos.
Espresso is the base for 14 of the 21 drinks on the McDonald’s national menu.
McDonald’s was contacted by the U.S. Sun about the machine outages and when they will be back in service.

Fans of McDonald’s can get a free 10-piece nugget set, but they might not be able to enjoy certain of the chain’s espresso-based drinks.
Additionally, the much-anticipated McRib has returned, but pictures of “squashed” sandwiches have been leaked by fans.
