What they’re saying:

Broken hearts and smashed stained glass were left behind after a suspect tried to enter into Oakland University’s Meadow Brook Hall on Tuesday.

Randy Engle, an OU professor, described it as “maddening, especially since that there seems to be no point to it.”

The sentimental value of the stained-glass is priceless, yet its worth is approximately $30,000.

“Everything in this place is unique. This place was constructed especially for Meadow Brook Hall. Since it was not imported, it is not truly replicable. Therefore, once something is shattered or completely destroyed, it’s gone forever,” Meadow Brook Estate Executive Director Bill Matt stated.

The backstory

The Golden Grizzlies’ house was made possible by Matilda Dodge Wilson, who lived in Meadow Brook and gave her estate to OU.

The guy kicked the stained glass and struck his knee against the heavy iron bars as he attempted to break in through a window. Then, unaware that he would be facing a 20-foot drop, he attempted to pass through the top.

The guy then turned and fled, leaving his footprints in the snow as he did so.

Next steps:

Thankfully, a grant was recently awarded to Meadow Brook Estate to renovate the stained-glass windows.

“The research has already been completed. “It has already returned to the Muskegon conservation studio, where it is currently undergoing repairs,” Matt stated.

By April 1, the window should be operational again.

Police are looking into the incident at Oakland University.
