Metro Detroit snow timeline: What to expect Tuesday, the rest of the week

Through the early afternoon, there is a Winter Weather Advisory in force.

DETROIT (FOX 2):Metro Detroit is firmly under the grip of winter on Tuesday, with snow and extreme cold dominating the forecast.

Southeast Michigan snow forecast

With the possibility of snow squalls, a Winter Weather Advisory has ended for the counties of Washtenaw, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne.

The majority of regions got roughly half an inch.

Cold sticks around

The wind will make it feel considerably colder, with temperatures hovering around 5 degrees or even lower throughout the day, even if the temperature won’t get over 19 degrees. If you’re going out, dress in layers and be careful. The cold persists throughout the day, although the snow threat should subside after 2:00 p.m.

The cold gets colder tonight. Wind chills will be close to zero, and lows will fall to 13 degrees. Keep an eye out for slippery sidewalks and roadways as any melting snow may refreeze.

Snow later this week

There’s a little respite from the snow on Wednesday, but not from the cold. With wind chills trapped in the single digits between 5 and 8 degrees, expect a high of just 24 degrees. Although it will be a more tolerable day for travel, it will still be far from cozy.

Looking ahead to Thursday, a more structured system enters the area, bringing snow back. A new layer of winter wonderland might be created with this round’s potential delivery of 1-2 inches across the board. The bright side? Although it’s still cold enough to keep roadways slick, temperatures will rise to a more tolerable 32 degrees.

This week, winter isn’t playing around. It’s time to accept the layers and go slowly, regardless of the weather—snow, wind, or ice. Keep yourself warm!
