Metro Detroit weather: Above average temps Monday before snow chances return
The difference between a wintry mix and an all-rain event this morning depends on the temperature. By late morning, the record-breaking downpour from yesterday will subside. The next opportunity for precipitation is on New Year’s Eve, when there may be a combination of snow and rain. By the weekend, it will be much colder. Lori Pinson, a meteorologist, has your prediction.
DETROIT (FOX 2): On Monday, temperatures will once again be in control.
Rainfall is mostly expected this morning due to above-season temperatures, while there are some exceptions. For your morning commute, snow is combining with the rain between Port Austin, Pigeon, and Port Huron.
The rain from yesterday broke all previous records. 1.43 inches, surpassing the 1.34-inch rainfall record set in 1940. Today’s wind is gusty and SW 15-20 mph due to the low pressure linked to the rain moving gradually north.
The afternoon high of 45 degrees is still above average, but tonight colder air is predicted to arrive, bringing the temperatures down to about freezing. When those chilly temperatures threaten to deliver a rain/snow mix after 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve night, it will make a difference.
We might see light snow on Wednesday as we welcome in 2025 because of the cooler weather and some residual moisture. By the weekend, with highs in the 20s and a growing likelihood of snow, we exchange seasonal temperatures for below-normal readings.
