Metro Detroit weather: Another cold day with wind chills in the teens

The temperature stays in the teens for the majority of the day, and by midweek, more colder air is expected to arrive. Today, the thumb is affected by lake effect snow. Lori Pinson, a meteorologist, has your prediction.

DETROIT (FOX 2):We can find some comfort in wind chills in the teens rather than the single digits we had over the weekend, even though it’s another chilly start to the day.

Monday’s highs, at about 28, are getting closer to the seasonal average of 33. We will experience wind chills in the teens throughout the day, along with a strong northerly wind that is 10 to 15 mph and gusty. At least the temperature isn’t as low as it was in 2014. At that time, we had a record low of 14 below zero.

Lake-effect snow, which is more common close to the Thumb and accumulates to about 2 inches, will be drawn in by the north wind. As the day goes on, we might see some streamers.

This morning, the larger storm system that is headed for the eastern shore is gradually making its way through the Ohio Valley, primarily sticking to our south. As far east as New Jersey, there are winter storm warnings that promise a lot of snow.

With midweek evening lows of about 12, another reinforcing cold blast of air is expected to arrive on Wednesday.
