What is closing this week?
Schools are likely to be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, however there isn’t a hard-and-fast rule on school cancellations.
University of Oakland:
Due to the frigid weather, Oakland University has announced that it will close its campus beginning at 5 a.m. on Tuesday and remain closed until 5 a.m. on Thursday. According to OU, all planned classes—regardless of format—are canceled, and all but necessary operations will cease. Unless otherwise noted, campus events outside of classroom are also canceled.
“Decisions regarding various changes in university operations due to severe weather are made independently as conditions warrant,” the university stated in a statement. “During any change in operations, it should not be assumed that additional changes will be made in conjunction with any other.”
The Detroit Zoo
Due to the weather, the Detroit Zoo will also be closed on Tuesday in addition to OU.
According to officials, the leadership team of the Zoological Society is keeping an eye on the weather predictions, and we will reopen as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
Those who purchased tickets for Tuesday will not receive a refund, but they will still be able to enter on any subsequent visits.
Nature Center at Belle Isle:
The Belle Isle Nature Center will also be closed on Tuesday due to the frigid conditions.
Even if access to Belle Isle State Park is allowed, the center will not be accessible to the general public.
“Our top focus is ensuring the safety of both our visitors and the animals who live at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center. To guarantee that the animals continue to receive the outstanding care they require, key team members, including our committed animal care personnel, will stay on-site.”
City Hall in Dearborn Heights:
Due to the weather, the city hall in Dearborn Heights will likewise be closed on Tuesday.
According to city officials, only the City Hall building is impacted by the closure. All other city structures and services will continue to run normally in the interim.
The Belle Isle Nature Center, Detroit Zoo, and Oakland University provided information for FOX 2.
