MGM Casino Employee Indicted for Allegedly Facilitating Player Cheating and Theft

Oxon Hill, Maryland — An indictment has been made against a former employee of MGM National Harbor & Casino for a conspiracy in which the employee is accused of helping gamblers deceive and steal money from the casino.

Aisha Braveboy, the state’s attorney for Prince George’s County, gave an update during a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

She added that at the time of the plan, the 31-year-old Jamie Smith was employed as a blackjack dealer.

Surveillance footage on October 2, 2023, showed Smith plotting to cheat with three other participants. According to Braveboy, she permitted participants to view their cards before making a wager and to modify their wagers thereafter. She also didn’t get paid when her bets lost.

She is accused of assisting them in escaping with at least $43,253. The maximum sentence for this offense is ten years in jail.

Braveboy said that in addition to stealing from the casino, she also pilfered funds intended for the Education Trust Fund.

Braveboy declared, “Looting from any casino, including MGM, is like stealing from our children.”

Smith is accused of stealing, conspiring to steal, and embezzlement, among other offenses.
