Michigan probationary officer charged with child porn possession

Stachura, Alexander

FOX 2-A probationary officer in Meridian Township is charged with a felony for allegedly possessing sexually harmful materials for children.

Following an inquiry that began when a member of the public provided information to the MSP, Alexander Stachura, 38, of Williamston, was taken into custody. Digital evidence was found during a search of Stachura’s home.

The case against Stachura, who was put on paid administrative leave, is being handled by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Computer Crimes Unit of the Michigan State Police.

Stachura was accused on three charges of possessing materials that were sexually harmful to children and three counts of committing a crime using a computer. On Dec. 11, he was arraigned.

For each count of possessing material that has been sexually abusive to children, Stachura faces a maximum sentence of four years in jail if found guilty.

A recently hired police officer who is still completing training is known as a probationary cop.

In a statement, Richard Grillo, the chief of police for Meridian, stated that Stachuara’s job “has been concluded”

“On December 10, we learned Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney John Dewane had filed felony criminal charges against Mr. Stachura,” according to him. “We acknowledge that a resolution is unlikely to be found fast, even though we respect the criminal justice system and the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.

Staff members in our department are under pressure to cover for the probationary officer, who is unable to carry out his responsibilities while the criminal justice process is underway. We ended his employment on December 10 as a result.
