Michigan state park campground rates increasing this summer
(FOX 2):Later this year, a fee rise for campgrounds in Michigan state parks may result in a slightly higher cost for your camping stay.
It’s the first rate hike in three years, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Campground rate increase
Timetable:
For stays starting on August 1 and later, the nightly rate hikes are scheduled to take effect.
Campers can begin booking sites under the new pricing this weekend because campsites and hotels can be reserved up to six months in advance.
Based on the figures:
The cost of modern and semi-modern campsites at state parks ranges from $4 to $10 per night, depending on the area and amenities like power.
Cabins, yurts, and other overnight accommodations will cost between $60 and $120 per night.
The cost of deluxe accommodations is $160 per night.
The price of contemporary lodges will gradually rise to a maximum of $236 per night.
A 7.5% tax will be added to the nightly fees for camping in campgrounds with 85% occupancy rates.
The backstory
Last summer, the rate increases were approved by the Michigan State Park Advisory Committee.
The DNR claims that the new pricing were established by analyzing the markets of other campgrounds.
According to the DNR, the extra money would be utilized to upgrade facilities, clean parks and restrooms, and enhance customer service. Additionally, the funds will support initiatives for the stewardship of natural resources.
