(FOX 2) HARPER WOODS, MITwo Michigan State Troopers are on the other side of a crisis that they are accustomed to aiding people in.
It comes after their Harper Woods house was destroyed by a fire that broke out at three in the morning on Saturday, leaving nothing of it standing.
“When I opened up the door and looked out, you can see the flames across the other houses,” David Shipman said. “So yeah, real bad.”
Not much more than the last of the ashes, shattered bricks, no roof, and a sliver of Christmas remained.
“I just totaled. It’s through the roof, indeed. “The smoke alarm was still going off on Sunday morning,” Shipman remarked.
Just before the holidays, a woman and her three grown children lived here; if the narrative ended there, the family would be devastated. This family, however, was unique. Two of the kids were troopers with the Michigan State Police (MSP).
“I had my drone got stuck in a tree, and Willie climbed the tree and got my drone down,” Shipman stated. “I was unable to say anything negative about them. There is nothing negative about them.
Willie and Javan Coleman, brothers who served as state troopers, are now homeless. A trooper coworker organized a program to assist the family in beginning the process of rebuilding the house and replacing its belongings.
Despite the destruction, the fire did not injure anyone.
