Mike Greenberg issues groveling apology to Russell Wilson live on ESPN after remarks before NFL season
During a live TV segment, ESPN personality Mike Greenberg apologized to Russell Wilson, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Get Up host discussed his previous comments regarding the 36-year-old Wilson prior to the 2024 NFL season.
Wilson, who returned from injury to post a 6-1 record as a starter for the Steelers after a dismal stint with the Denver Broncos, has been one of the NFL season’s biggest surprises.
The eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback just led the team to a 27-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 14 and has 12 passing touchdowns versus three interceptions.
The 57-year-old Greenberg said on Get Up Monday that he was mistaken to believe Wilson’s NFL career was over.
“I spent this whole offseason basically saying Russell Wilson’s career is over, he’s done,” he stated.

“I simply must admit that I was completely mistaken.
Russell Wilson is performing admirably.
“I don’t know if he can go toe-to-toe and beatLamar Jackson,Patrick Mahomes, andJosh Allenin the playoffs, but I know that he’s playing legitimately well.”
With a record of 10-3, the Steelers are in the running for the AFC’s second seed.
The Kansas City Chiefs, the top seed, are only two games behind them.
“This is not a cute,Mike Tomlinwell-coached team that is going to sneak into the back of the playoffs,” Greenberg stated.
“This team is playing really well. He’s passing 65 percent of the time. Furthermore, it wasn’t until the middle of the season that he began to start.
“Russell Wilson is playing football at a really high level, and I believe that many people, including myself, should apologize to him.
Wilson will be a free agent following the season, and he is only making $1.2 million this year.
Wilson is the front-runner to start at quarterback for the Steelers in 2025, according to an article published over the weekend by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
“As of now, based on his status and play, Wilson appears to be the leading candidate,” Rapoport stated.
“This upcoming offseason, if the Steelers want to bring back Wilson – and it seems like they will – they’ll have to negotiate a new contract, and the franchise tag is also an option for any free agent whose team is attempting to re-sign him.”
The 11-2 in-state rival Philadelphia Eagles will be the Steelers’ toughest opponent in Week 15.

Right now, the Eagles have won nine straight games.
Additionally, George Pickens, the Steelers’ injured wide receiver, is probably going to miss two games in a row.
