MLB in talks over ‘bizarre’ new golden at-bat rule introduction which is huge boost for Aaron Judge and Co
A bizarre new Golden at-bat rule is being floated by Major League Baseball.
The new concept is generating “a little buzz” among owners, according to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred.
A team would be able to select one at-bat per game to send its best hitter to the plate, even if it isn’t their turn to bat, according to the Golden At-bat concept.
In a different version of the concept, only the losing side is permitted to use the Golden At-bat.
Another variation restricts the use of the Golden at-bat to after the seventh inning.
Numerous [regulatory changes] are being discussed in the public sphere. The concept of a “Golden at-bat” was one of those that generated some discussion at an owners’ meeting, according to Manfred on “The Varsity Podcast” with John Ourand.

Manfred did make it clear that the rule is still in its infancy and won’t be implemented anytime soon.
“That rule, and things like that, are in the conversation-only stage right now,” Manfred stated.
Manfred has restructured the sport in recent years and is renowned for his audacity in enforcing rule revisions.
To make at-bats go more quickly, he added a pitch clock to the game.
In order to shorten the duration of games that require extra innings, the ghost runner was also added.
To promote more offensive output, Manfred also decreased the distance between bases and outlawed the defensive shift.
Baseball has benefited greatly from those regulations, but Manfred has also put forth other concepts, such as the Golden at-bat concept, that have received less favorable feedback.
“One of the best things about the success we had last year [was] that it makes people in the game more comfortable talking about change, you know?” “Manfred said.”
“They had some confidence that you can manage the change process in a way that produces a good outcome.”
To a certain degree, many baseball fans have relished the changes they have witnessed in recent years.
Social media users have nearly universally responded adversely to this notion, and they have communicated their opinions to Manfred and MLB.
“If this actually went into effect, I’d seriously consider giving up watching baseball,” a fan commented.

“Please, for the love of God, get rid of Rob Manfred before he does irreparable damage to the only sport I love,” a different supporter said.
“This would be the dumbest rule implementation in the history of professional sports,” claimed another fan.
A fourth fan questioned, “Why do they keep trying to ruin baseball?”
A fifth fan remarked, “Manfred should step down for even considering it out loud.”

Though not to this degree, many fans opposed the ghost runner and pitch clock regulations.
Maybe Major League Baseball will take a cue from the fans’ responses and put the notion on hold for the time being.
