Mom’s ‘new fear unlocked’ over toddler safety concern at Target after fire department had to be called to help
A mother has spoken out about discovering a “new fear” after having a terrible recent experience at Target with her toddler.
When Emily McMaugh’s two-year-old daughter got her fingers stuck in a shopping cart’s holes, she was at her neighborhood Target.
She had taken her two daughters, a younger girl and one who is nearly three, to the grocery shop.
Until it was time to depart, the trip had gone smoothly.
Emily’s daughter abruptly informed her mother that she was stranded.
Emily used Vaseline and even asked Target staff for assistance in trying to free the hand.

But she had to call the fire department when it became apparent they couldn’t help.
It took about twenty-five minutes to free her daughter’s hand, according to Emily, who posted about her experience on TikTok.
She shared a number of photos of Target staff members and firefighters congregating near the cart.
Emily explained that her daughter had maintained her composure right up until the very end.
“The only part where she started freaking out is when the paramedics had to actually cut the cart,” she stated to People.
“At that point she started screaming and the fire department showed up, everyone was looking.”
Emily couldn’t handle the “stress” on shopping alone, so she had to call her husband to meet her at Target.
As the crisis developed, the mother of two had to maintain the composure of both kids.
“She doesn’t speak in full sentences yet, so I’m sure it hurt but she couldn’t really tell me what she was feeling,” Emily stated.
Emily also gave credit to the Target staff for trying their best to assist, even offering her daughter a “cake pop” to help her relax.
Later, their accident team checked up with her to make sure her daughter was okay.
To ensure that other kids don’t experience this, she still wants Target to alter the cart formatting.
“It’s a new fear unlocked,” she acknowledged privately.
She claimed that in order to spread awareness, she had posted about her experience on TikTok.

She and her spouse typically go to Target together so they can both watch the kids.
The U.S. Sun reached out to Target for comment, but they did not reply.
