Multiple Charges Land Rapper NBA Youngboy in Utah Arrest
NBA YoungBoy, a rap sensation, has been arrested in Utah for various infractions while on house arrest.
According to Cache County Sheriff’s Office detention records, the 24-year-old, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was arrested on Tuesday on multiple offenses, including possession of a controlled narcotic and possession of a dangerous weapon. The rapper is currently awaiting trial on federal gun charges, which was halted in March pending the Supreme Court’s decision on Second Amendment rights this spring.
The rapper was charged in March 2021 after reportedly being discovered with two weapons in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in September 2020. Sixteen persons were arrested for drug and firearms offenses while filming a music video in an abandoned lot. In July 2022, a federal jury in Los Angeles found NBA YoungBoy not guilty of “knowingly” having a handgun during an arrest during a brief foot chase in California.
He has been placed under house arrest in Utah, where he is being monitored by a security service run by military veterans.
Last December, a federal judge relaxed the terms of his house imprisonment to allow him to receive mental health therapy, but denied him more time in the recording studio, despite claims that his album sales had fallen as a result of his lockdown.
A counsel for NBA YoungBoy issued a statement that read, in part, “Everyone is presumed innocent, and he has been falsely accused in the past.”
No bail has been set.
