NBA forced to make major schedule change after winter blizzard brings hazardous conditions and causes havoc

Due to bad weather, the NBA is rearranging its schedule.

A blizzard has forced the postponement of the Houston Rockets vs. Atlanta Hawks game.

Due to the winter storm that swept across Atlanta on Friday, the NBA has decided to cancel the game.

Before the game, the area was blanketed in snow and ice from that storm.

The original plan was for Saturday night to be the date of the Rockets-Hawks matchup.

The NBA stated that it decided “to prioritize the safety of the players, fans, and staff due to the severe weather and hazardous icy conditions in the Atlanta area.”

By the time the game was rescheduled, the Rockets had already arrived in Atlanta.

The NBA will make an announcement later on the new date for the game.

Wildfires have delayed games on the West Coast, while winter weather is delaying games on the East Coast.

The Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs game scheduled for Saturday at Crypto.com Arena has been rescheduled.

Additionally, the Charlotte Hornets vs. LA Clippers game at the Intuit Dome has been postponed.

JJ Redick, the head coach of the Lakers, acknowledged that the wildfires destroyed his house.

“I m not sure I ve wept or wailed like that in several years,” Redick stated.

“What I witnessed caught me off guard. It’s total destruction and catastrophe.

“The majority of the village is gone, but I had to take a different route to get to the house.

“I don’t believe you can ever get ready for that kind of tragedy. Our house is gone.

Redick claimed that the house fire destroyed all he owned.

New rights deal

Three networks and the NBA inked an 11-year agreement for the league’s rights starting in 2025–2026.

Additionally, for the first time since the network’s 1988 debut, TNT will not be hosting any games.

ESPN and ABC will continue to broadcast the league’s 80 regular-season games, according to The Walt Disney Company.

The NBA Finals will continue to be held there, along with about 18 playoff games from the first and second rounds and a Conference Finals series for ten of the eleven years.

For the first time since 2002, NBC will broadcast the NBA again.

Up to 100 games will be broadcast on the network’s channels and Peacock streaming service each season.

In addition, it will host NBA All-Star games and include about 28 first- and second-round playoff games.

NBC will alternate with upstart broadcaster Amazon Prime to telecast one Conference Finals Series for six of the eleven years.

66 NBA regular-season games, including one on Black Friday, will be available on Amazon.

The complete Play-In Tournament and the final stages of the NBA Cup are also available on the streaming service.

Additionally, about one-third of the first- and second-round playoff games will be televised on Prime.

“Everything that we owned that was of any importance to us in almost 20 years together as a couple and 10 years of parenting was in that house,” Redick stated.
