New Lawsuit Filed by New Mexico Family Names Arkansas Law Enforcement Officials After Loved One’s Death
Little Rock, Arkansas – The family of New Mexico resident Daniel Barajas, 38, said that they have been seeking answers for over a year following the death of a loved one and are currently pursuing legal action against many Arkansas agency employees.
About the investigation into his death, Barajas’ sisters Xexilia Barajas and Raquel Ramos’ legal representatives announced on Wednesday that they are launching a new lawsuit against many Saline County Sheriff’s Office employees, an Arkansas State Police officer, and a few other entities.
Sheriff Rodney Wright, seven sheriff’s deputies, ranking from deputy to captain, county coroner Kevin Cleghorn, deputy coroner R. Allyn West, and others are named in the case alongside the county.
“We miss him,” Xexilia Barajas stated.
According to Arkansas State Police records, Barajas passed away on January 15, 2022, at 6 a.m., after stepping in front of an automobile close to the 106-mile marker on I-30. While lying on the roadway, he was struck by a truck and another car after being struck by the first one.

The family has filed lawsuits before, albeit, not this one.
The family sued many Saline County authorities in August 2023, alleging that they were accountable for Barajas’ demise and had violated his civil rights.
According to the lawsuit, Barajas engaged in conversation with deputies during an early morning traffic stop on the day he was slain. Barajas was traveling from Kentucky to Dallas in the west to visit two family members.
Barajas passed very soon after the traffic stop, according to the lawsuit, and the family alleges there were improper actions both before and after the encounter. However, the matter was concluded in November after the family dismissed it.
The sisters of Barajas assert in this new case that numerous irregularities and a lack of investigation occurred.
“We seek resolution, tranquility, responsibility, and accountability,” Xexilia Barajas declared.
When KARK 4 News contacted representatives of Saline County and the Arkansas State Police, they stated they “do not comment on pending litigation.”
