New York Jets make major decision over future of GM Joe Douglas as NFL season continues to collapse
In regards to general manager Joe Douglas, the New York Jets have taken an astounding action.
One of the most miserable seasons in the history of the franchise has been experienced by the 3-8 Jets.
Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, announced Douglas’ termination on Tuesday.
He also said that Phil Savage, a senior advisor, would be appointed interim general manager.
More than a month had passed since the Jets sacked head coach Robert Saleh when Douglas was fired.
Since June 2019, Douglas has served as general manager of the Jets.

During his reign, the squad suffered a devastating 30-64 loss.
Even though they have four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback, the Jets are now last in the AFC East.
Rodgers, who missed almost the entire previous season due to a torn Achilles, was acquired by Douglas in a trade last year.
The Jets had high hopes for the playoffs going into the season, but their club hasn’t performed well.
Under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, the squad is only 1-5 and they sacked Saleh following a 2-3 start.
Rodgers’ former Green Bay Packers colleague, six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Daavante Adams, was also acquired by Douglas; however, the Jets are just 1-4 with him on the team.
During the Douglas reign, there were some terrible misses, such the selection of offensive tackle Mekhi Becton in the first round of the previous draft and quarterback Zach Wilson as the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
In 2022, Douglas also had a fantastic draft, choosing running back Breece Hall, wideout Garrett Wilson, edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, and cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Nevertheless, during his time, the 48-year-old was in command despite subpar quarterback and offensive line play.
With this season, the team will have missed the playoffs for 14 straight seasons.
In order to assist the soon-to-be 41-year-old, the front staff brought in offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and a number of players, although Rodgers is still with the organization.
His contract is up in another year.
According to Over The Cap, dismissing Rodgers would result in $49 million in dead cap money because he has a no-trade provision.
During the season, he has thrown for 2,442 yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
The Jets have made six postseason trips and have a 171-227 record since Johnson bought the organization in 2000.
