New York State Police Issue 71 Tickets in “Operation Hard Hat” on Route 17
In an effort to improve safety and enforce road rules, the New York State Police (NYSP) recently carried out an “Operation Hard Hat” campaign on Route 17 in Bridgeville, Sullivan County. On September 10, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., NYSP Troopers collaborated with the New York State Department of Transportation to target reckless drivers in a work zone.
During this four-hour campaign, officers issued a total of 71 tickets. Among these were 21 for speeding, 10 for seatbelt violations, and 10 for cell phone usage while driving. “Operation Hard Hat” involves NYS Troopers disguising themselves as construction workers to monitor drivers in active work zones. Once a violation is observed, the trooper relays the information to other officers stationed outside the zone to pull over and ticket the offenders.
The campaign is part of a broader effort to crack down on work zone violations and ensure the safety of workers and drivers alike. It aims to remind drivers to exercise caution, particularly when approaching construction and maintenance zones. For more on similar operations, visit here.
