NFL makes controversial decision after handing huge fine to Baltimore Ravens star Roquan Smith for brutal hit
THE NFL have made a controversial decision after handing a huge fine to Baltimore Ravens star Roquan Smith.
The linebacker was hit with a $16,883 fine for his brutal hit against Tampa Bay Buccaneers Chris Godwin.
Godwin, 28, was rushed to hospital with a horror dislocated ankle injury as a result of Smith’s hit.
The wide receiver was left in agony on the field as his leg was caught under Smith’s weight.
His leg was put into an air cast, and he was carted off the field at the Raymond James Stadium.
The Ravens ace was handed the fine as he was initially judged to have used unnecessary roughness.

However, NFL hearing officer Jordy Nelson has now rescinded the 27-year-old’s fine after an appeal.
Godwin has since been put on the Injured Reserve list and will more than likely be out for the remainder of the 2024/25 NFL season.
There is a slim chance that he could be back for the Buccaneers if they make the playoffs.
As a result of the injury, the Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles came under fire from fans.
There were complaints over his decision to leave the starters on despite the loss being all but certain.
Buccaneers writer Jon Ledyward hit out at the coach on social media for “gross negligence”.
He wrote: “And now Godwin is injured completely unnecessarily.
“A coaching disaster class by Todd Bowles tonight. Gross negligence.
“I’m actually furious. Didn’t need to happen. Completely pointless.
“After Mike Evans was out on the field clearly injured. In a contract year for Godwin too.
“Having an amazing season. Completely let down by his coach. Awful.”
