NFL makes final punishment decision on Jameson Williams after Detroit Lions receiver’s ‘obscene’ gesture
DETROIT The NFL has fined Jameson Williams, a standout for the Detroit Lions.
Williams, 23, received punishment for his celebration during the Jacksonville Jaguars game last week.
In the third quarter, Jared Goff’s 64-yard touchdown pass to the wide receiver gave him the score.
As he entered the end zone, he also paid homage to former Seattle Seahawks star Marshawn Lynch.
Williams dived in for the score to increase Detroit’s advantage to 35–6, placing his hand on his groin as he did so.
However, the NFL reprimanded him after determining that the gesture was offensive.

On Sunday, it was revealed that he had been fined $19,697 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Despite the full mismatch, Detroit won the game 52-6.
Williams’ quickness and dynamic playmaking have contributed to the Lions’ status as one of the top football teams.
The 2024 season saw 29 receptions for 602 yards and four touchdowns for the third-year wide receiver.
However, suspension problems have already harmed him in his brief career.
In 2023, he was given a six-game suspension for breaking the league’s gambling rules.

Later, the suspension was lowered to four weeks, allowing him to start the season two weeks ahead of schedule.

In the team’s 24-6 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Williams caught five catches for 64 yards.
With the victory, the Lions’ season record now stands at 10-1.
On Thanksgiving, they play an early game against the Chicago Bears.
Head coach Dan Campbell stated, “This is, whatever it is, 10 quarters without allowing a touchdown and the three final games in the second half we’re not allowing it.”
