NFL refs threaten to award Philadelphia Eagles a touchdown and implement little-known rule against Washington Commanders
During the NFC Championship, a LITTLE-KNOWN scoring rule almost came into effect.
Referees almost had to take matters into their own hands because the Washington Commanders committed so many penalties.
The Philadelphia Eagles had the ball right on the goal line early in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles always set up for the almost invincible tush push play in those circumstance.
The Commanders were resolved to prevent the Eagles from scoring again after stopping the tush push once during the game.
But Washington became a bit impatient and began repeatedly leaping offside.

After noticing this, the referees concluded that the Commanders might be purposefully leaping offside to obtain an advantage throughout the play.
The referees indicated that a player who jumped over the offensive linemen could receive a penalty for unsportsmanlike behavior following the initial jump offside.
The Eagles would get a free first down as a result.
Following another offsides penalty, the referees announced on the microphones that if further infractions were called, they might eventually give the Eagles a score.
The referees clarified that the Commanders might face consequences if it was believed that they were purposefully obstructing play with the offside penalties.
NFL fans posted their opinions on social media after being perplexed by the entire series of events.
