Nicole Kidman breaks down in tears making emotional tribute to her late parents as she accepts prestigious award

After receiving a distinguished award, Nicole Kidman sobbed for the passing of her parents.

Jamie Lee Curtis presented the 57-year-old Australian actress with the Palm Springs International Film Awards’ International Star medal.

Nicole spoke on stage at the Palm Springs Convention Center: “I spent Christmas at home. I’m in that position, thinking, “Okay, this is different now,” after losing both of my parents.

“They ve given me the resilience and they ve given me the love and they ve given me the strength to keep moving forward.”

After learning that her mother, Janelle Ann, had passed away at the age of 84, Nicole left the Venice Film Festival in September.

Married to country music artist Keith Urban, the A-list Hollywood actress made an appearance at the renowned festival to accept the Best Actress award for her performance in Babygirl.

Nicole talked of her disbelief and how her mother, Janelle, had helped her in her sorrowful testimony from the Venice event.

She stated: “The collision of life and art is heartbreaking and my heart is broken.”

In 2014, Nicole experienced even more heartache when her 75-year-old father, Anthony, passed away after a fall.

In the past, the celebrity talked about how devastated she was when she visited her father in the mortuary and described her reaction as “awful” as she “shook and laughed”.

Nicole praised her mother in a 2020 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“She’s given me the fire to pursue the career I have because I’ve always wanted to please her,” the Eyes Wide Shut actress stated at the time.

However, she also forged her own path and desired for her daughters to have the same freedom to do the same.

“Mum didn t necessarily get the career that she wanted, but she was determined that her daughters would have opportunities that were equal.”

“I’ve been granted my life by it. And she and my father gave me my life,” she said.
