NKWD receives KEMI Destiny Award, recognizing workplace safety, for 13th consecutive year

The 2024 Kentucky Employers Mutual Insurance (KEMI) Destiny Award has been given to the Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD) in recognition of their exceptional dedication to worker safety.

We are honored to have won this award for the thirteenth year in a row. According to NKWD President/CEO Lindsey Rechtin, “safety is one of our core values at the Northern Kentucky Water District, and it’s not just something we talk about, it’s something we do.” By funding our long-standing safety program and endorsing fresh efforts to benefit our workers, our Board consistently exemplifies its dedication to safety. At NKWD, we have genuinely established a culture of safety from the top down.

Businesses who successfully receive the KEMI Destiny Award show KEMI that they can effectively oversee a formal safety program, offer employees on-the-job training and frequent safety briefings, and exhibit a continuous dedication to safety at all organizational levels. In Kentucky, 27 out of 20,000 policyholders received the honor from KEMI.

According to Brad Murphy, NKWD Safety Administrator, “Our knowledgeable Safety Committee convenes on a regular basis to promote a safe working environment, address safety issues, and support the investigation and prevention of workplace accidents and injuries.” Our team as a whole prioritizes safety.

About 181 team members work at NKWD, helping to provide water to about 300,000 residents in parts of Boone, Grant, and Pendleton Counties as well as Campbell and Kenton Counties. NKWD is the largest water district in Kentucky and the third largest water provider in the Commonwealth, with a service area of around 229 square miles and 1,330 miles of water main.
