Officials employed at Warren-area school arrested, charged with drug possession on school grounds
On Friday, Warren police arrested two school administrators, including the superintendent of Fitzgerald Public Schools in Warren. Both were found in possession of marijuana on school grounds.
(FOX 2) Warren, Mich. The district superintendent was among two Warren education officials who appeared in court on Monday following their arrests for marijuana use in a parking lot on Friday night.
Within a thousand feet of a school, the two ladies, both 38, were found to be smoking marijuana. Amanda Carroll and Hollie Stang are both charged with marijuana possession and drunk driving on school property.
After police discovered a loaded gun in her car, Stange, the current superintendent of Fitzgerald Public Schools, was also charged with possessing a firearm in a prohibited area.
Amanda Carroll, the other school administrator, is Fitzgerald’s director of food services.
At the intersection of Nine Mile and Ryan in Warren, officers observed Stange using marijuana in Carroll’s car on Friday, leading to their arrest.
Carroll and Stange were both pulled over after they departed Carroll’s car in different vehicles.
All three of Stange’s charges are misdemeanors. She was granted a $5,000 cash/surety bond upon her arraignment in court on Monday. Fifty grams of marijuana were discovered on her.
Her lawyer intends to contest the charges of weapons possession and operating under the influence.
According to William Barnwell, it is challenging to prove that someone was impaired by marijuana while driving because, unlike alcohol, there is no legal limit.
Regarding the number of weapons, we may be discussing a hunting rifle rather than a machine gun or concealed weapon. She’s not a hunter, as far as I know, so I’m not sure if she knew that a hunting rifle was even around,” Barnwell said. “Is it even hers?”
After officers noticed a 6-year-old child in Carroll’s car, she was also charged with OWI with an occupant under the age of sixteen.
Prosecutors claim she was in possession of 25 grams of marijuana.
In January, both ladies will return to court.
