FOX 2: ORION TWP. Mich.Investigators claim that a caseworker from Orion Township was attacked at their home on Wednesday, presenting a terrible scenario.

According to Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, a refugee who was assisted by the caseworker managed to find their Red Root Road residence, showed up, and repeatedly stabbed them. The person was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to officials.

“We don t know specifically what his complaint was or his motive was because the individual that was attacked is in surgery, as we speak,” stated Bouchard. “He was stabbed multiple times.”

Elias Muawad practices immigration law in addition to criminal defense. According to him, there are numerous issues with the current system that require attention.

“I m not going to tell you that it happens all the time but statistically you don t know who these people are, you don t know what kind of criminal record they have, you don t know what mental health issues they had,” he stated.

As investigators attempt to piece together the circumstances that led to the stabbing, police say the caseworker spent a day in surgery.

Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., are now debating immigration-related problems.

“For many of these immigrants, applying for asylum is the largest obstacle. Additionally, they must demonstrate to the immigration judge that they would fear death or severe injury if they returned home,” Muawad stated. “It s hard to prove.”

The culprit has been taken into custody. Officials said that the caseworker has been improving.

In order to gather further information, deputies are seeking to talk with the victim as soon as possible. The reason behind the suspect’s attack is unknown, according to police.
