MIXING IT UP

Bloomin’ Brands is the owner of Outback Steakhouse. In the November results call, the CEO described Outback’s difficulties in the “casual dining space.”

He laid up ideas to simplify the menu in order to revitalize the chain.

Mike Spanos, CEO of Bloomin’ Brands, stated, “Just a great meal and a great value in a fun casual environment is also the core of the brand.”

Spanos underlined the significance of the guest experience and its connection to the menu.

“It starts with simplification and getting back to the core of that Aussie spirit, that steak seafood core and being all things to some people on the menu and not necessarily being all things to all people on the menu,” Spanos said.

“Outback intends to concentrate on providing promotions that rely on core, staple menu items instead of adding new or complex items,” he continued.

Although they are only available for a short period of time, the January menu changes offer a unique way to liven up the restaurant’s offerings.

The Bloomin’ Onion and other customer favorites will remain available.

The menu change coincides with Outback’s recent sales difficulties.

During the earnings call, Spanos claimed that the chain of restaurants had “not sustainably grown traffic.”

He cited the chain’s declining share and same-store sales in the steak market.

Spanos attributed the damage caused by recent hurricanes, difficult industry trends, and the chain’s “current execution.”
