Over 20k workers accept federal buyout offer eliminating 1% of staff & Trump insists number will spike before deadline
Over 20,000 federal workers have accepted a fresh offer to resign from their positions while continuing to receive their salaries for a further seven months, and the number is predicted to grow.
The government worker still has a few days to agree to Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s buyout plan.
Workers have until the end of February to resign from their positions, and they can accept the deferred resignation offer until Thursday.
According to the plan, taxpayers would continue to cover the salaries of the former workers until the end of September.
Trump’s administration anticipates even more resignations, as just 1% of government employees have signed on as of Thursday.
According to the president, 10% of the workforce is expected to leave.
