Palmetto Bay Man Seeks Justice After Being Shot in Eye With Water Pellet by Kids

DEBARYLIFE – A guy from Palmetto Bay is requesting that children be disciplined after he believes a water pellet struck his eye.

Dave Singer told NBC6 on Wednesday, “I think it was kids just messing around but it was intentional.” “As a parent, I would sit there and apologize and try to rectify the situation, and that hasn’t happened,” the mother said of her kid.

Former Palmetto Bay Council member Singer, 62, said he has been receiving treatment at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for the past six days.

Singer stated, “I was completely blind in my left eye for two and a half days after this happened, and all I could see was white.”

It all happened on Friday night in Palmetto Bay, in the 8300 block of 154th Terrace, and was caught on camera by a Ring device.

A car passes by and someone tries to discharge water pellets from inside while Singer and his son and friends are shown in the home camera arriving home. The singer is left on the ground as they strike the group and then miss again.

He desires punishment for the children who committed this.

“I don’t want to ruin these kids’ lives because kids who are 16 and 17 do stupid things but they should at least go through the process,” he stated.

Although Singer acknowledged that he had reported the incident to the authorities, Miami-Dade authorities stated that no arrests have been made and that there is now no evidence of probable cause.

After NBC6 contacted the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and the Village of Palmetto Bay, they both directed us back to Miami-Dade Police.

Singer’s 16-year-old son was reportedly detained in January, according to NBC6, after he allegedly tried to scare a baseball player by throwing an air trumpet at him and cut his ear in the process.

The son of the singer believes the legal system isn’t treating the water pellet issue fairly, and he was charged with aggravated violence.

“It’s a very, very serious injury, and they’re trying to charge these kids with a misdemeanor,” he said. “My family seems to be subject to different laws than other Palmetto Bay residents.”

Given that his residence was the only target of gunfire and that the automobile made two attempts to enter his property, Singer stated he does think there is probable cause.
