Park Plaza Mall shooting causes Black Friday chaos as thousands around the country rush to shop top deals
Customers searching for Black Friday bargains are in a panic after shots were fired at a crowded mall.
Police quickly allayed active shooter concerns after confirming the gunshot as an isolated incident.
Mark Edwards, spokesman for the Little Rock, Arkansas, Police Department, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, “I haven’t heard of any fatalities.”
“I’ve heard maybe a couple of non-life-threatening injuries, but nothing fatal.”
At 1:45 p.m. local time, police were called to the Park Plaza Mall in Little Rock after receiving complaints of a “active aggressor,” according to the local CBS affiliate KTHV.
According to reports, two acquaintances traded gunfire.
The retailer says the mall is being evacuated.
Frank Scott, Jr., the mayor of Little Rock, called the violence “unacceptable” and claimed that it “recklessly put lives at risk.”
“The careless, senseless, and criminal actions of two individuals today jeopardized the lives and safety of residents and visitors,” he said.
Shoppers in other parts of the nation were lining up in the bitter cold of the early morning.
