Patrick Mahomes makes unwanted history for first time in 20 years after Chiefs star suffers worst season of career

Again, but for the wrong reasons, Patrick Mahomes has made NFL history.

During his incredible career, the three-time Super Bowl winner is rewriting the record books.

This season, the 29-year-old Mahomes might lead his Kansas City Chiefs to an unprecedented three-peat in the Super Bowl.

With a 15-1 record going into Week 18, Kansas City has already secured the top seed in the AFC playoffs.

Additionally, they have the luxury of benching players for the Denver Broncos, their regular-season finale.

However, in 2024, Mahomes has fallen short of his often high expectations.

In terms of both passing yards and touchdowns, he has had his poorest season ever.

It was the first time since 2017 that the 29-year-old was passed over for the Pro Bowl.

And he’s set an unwelcome chapter in contemporary history in the process.

Mahomes, who has had a 15-1 or better record since 2004, is the only quarterback to not make it to the Pro Bowl.

He has been selected to six consecutive Pro Bowls since the 2018 campaign.

However, the three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time MVP missed out on the AFC top three this season.

Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson were the quarterbacks for the AFC.

With the exception of his rookie season, when he only played in one game, Mahomes’ 3,928 yards was the lowest total ever.

Additionally, his 26 passing touchdowns rank second to 2019 in terms of his lowest return.

But that year he threw only five interceptions and played just 14 games compared to 16 this year.

Mahomes’ preferred targetDespite having his worst season ever, Travis Kelce somehow managed to make it in.

After winning the popular vote, the 35-year-old tight end might still be experiencing the Taylor Swift effect.

Because of his association with the music legend, Kelce has gained notoriety.

Additionally, he received 252,200 votes, more than the second-most votes (250,082) of Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

With 242,352 votes, quarterback Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders came in a far third.

Through 16 games, Kelce has recorded career lows of 823 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

His previous low for yards was in his rookie year of 2014, when he got 862 in 16 games.

And Kelce’s low for touchdowns in a season was four in the year 2016.

The tight end has been voted to the Pro Bowl for nine consecutive seasons.

The only time he wasn’t named in the selections was in his rookie year, 2014.
