In terms of both passing yards and touchdowns, he has had his poorest season ever.
It was the first time since 2017 that the 29-year-old was passed over for the Pro Bowl.
And he’s set an unwelcome chapter in contemporary history in the process.
Mahomes, who has had a 15-1 or better record since 2004, is the only quarterback to not make it to the Pro Bowl.
He has been selected to six consecutive Pro Bowls since the 2018 campaign.
However, the three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time MVP missed out on the AFC top three this season.

With the exception of his rookie season, when he only played in one game, Mahomes’ 3,928 yards was the lowest total ever.
Additionally, his 26 passing touchdowns rank second to 2019 in terms of his lowest return.
But that year he threw only five interceptions and played just 14 games compared to 16 this year.

Week 18 schedule changes
The full schedule for Week 18 of the regular season has been released by the NFL.
With everything on the line, the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings will square off in prime time on Sunday night.
The victor of Sunday’s match at 8:20 p.m. ET will be named the NFC North champions and the first seed in the playoffs, while the loser will have to make do with a wild card berth.
ESPN and ABC will broadcast a doubleheader on Saturday to kick off Week 18.
At 4:30 p.m. ET, the Baltimore Ravens play the Cleveland Browns, and at 8:00 p.m. ET, the Cincinnati Bengals visit the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Sunday, eight games will start at 1 pm ET.
At 4:25 PM ET, there will be five more, including the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos game.
His previous low for yards was in his rookie year of 2014, when he got 862 in 16 games.
And Kelce’s low for touchdowns in a season was four in the year 2016.
The tight end has been voted to the Pro Bowl for nine consecutive seasons.
The only time he wasn’t named in the selections was in his rookie year, 2014.
