Pennsylvania Grocery Store Chain Mourns Loss of Chairman and Past President

DEBARYLIFE – Redner’s Markets’ former president and CEO, Richard Earl “Dick” Redner, passed away.

The company announced that Redner, a second-generation business owner and chairman of the board, passed away in Reading on April 25. He was seventy-three.

A press release stated that Richard was “a humble leader, known for his nose to the grindstone work ethic and just get-it-done personality.”

The business claimed he developed sincere relationships, looked out for both visitors and staff and played a key role in guiding the business toward expansion.

Known by his professional nickname, “The Boss,” Redner grew the Reading-based business from ten Pennsylvania locations to forty-four grocery stores and twenty-four convenience stores in eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.

A major accomplishment during his leadership came in 2022 when the chain’s yearly revenues surpassed $1 billion.

“Taking care of the guest first and putting the needs and care of Redner’s 5,500+ employee-owners at the forefront guided his vision for the company,” Redner stated.

The chain observed that Redner was consistently the one to provide credit and recognition to the staff members rather than to himself. Ryan Redner, his son, referred to his father as his hero and expressed how much he will be missed.

He remarked, “His imprints are all over this business and this community, and we will keep moving forward with the same zeal and resolve to carry his vision forward.”

On April 23, 1951, Redner was born in Peekskill, New York, to the late Earl “The Chief” and Mary Redner.
